# Study terms, in plain English

## Active recall

Pulling facts out of your memory, for example by quizzing yourself, instead of just re-reading. See the [active recall guide](https://studytracker.co.in/blog/active-recall-for-board-exams).

## Spaced repetition

Reviewing something again and again with longer gaps each time, so it sticks in long-term memory. See the [spaced repetition schedule](https://studytracker.co.in/blog/spaced-repetition-revision-schedule).

## Pomodoro Technique

A way to work in short focused blocks, usually 25 minutes, with a short break after each. See the [Pomodoro timer](https://studytracker.co.in/pomodoro-timer).

## Time blocking

Giving each task its own block of time in your schedule.

## Focus session

A stretch of study with no distractions, on one task, usually timed.

## Study streak

The number of days in a row you finished at least one study session.

## Exam countdown

A count of the days left until an exam. It helps you choose what to revise first.

## Flashcard

A card with a question on one side and the answer on the other. Used for active recall.

## Mind map

A diagram with one main idea in the middle and related ideas branching out.

## Feynman technique

Learning something by explaining it in simple words, then filling in the parts you couldn't explain.

## Interleaving

Mixing different topics or problem types in one session instead of doing one type at a time.

## Study analytics

Charts of your study time by day, week and subject. They show your patterns.

## GSEB

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board. It runs the Std 10 and Std 12 board exams in Gujarat, India. Official site: gseb.org.

## Board exam

A public exam, like the GSEB Std 10 SSC and Std 12 HSC exams, that marks the end of a school stage.
