GSEB Accountancy Study Tips: Practise, Check, Repeat

You learn Accountancy with a pen, not a highlighter. Here's how to get faster and make fewer mistakes.
Short answer
To do well in Accountancy, learn the formats, practise numericals every day, always check that your totals match, and revise concepts with active recall.
1. Learn the formats first
Journal, ledger, trial balance, final accounts and statements all have fixed layouts. Draw them from memory until you don't have to think about them.
2. Practise every day
Solve a few numericals daily instead of a lot on one day. Time yourself with a focus timer to build speed for the exam.
3. Check your work
- Does the trial balance agree?
- Did you use every adjustment exactly once?
- Do both sides of the balance sheet match?
4. Understand first, then memorise
Know why an entry is a debit or a credit. Rules you only memorised break down on an unfamiliar question. Understanding doesn't.
5. Revise with recall
Cover the solution, try the problem, then compare. See active recall.
When you're stuck
If a problem won't balance, ask the AI study helper to walk through the logic, then redo it yourself. StudyTracker also has a GSEB Accountancy helper for signed-in students. Always check against your textbook.
Frequently asked questions
How much time should I give Accountancy each day?
A short daily session of numericals, often 30 to 60 minutes, beats a rare long one. Adjust for your weak chapters.
What causes most mistakes in numericals?
Missed adjustments, entries on the wrong side and small arithmetic slips. A final checking routine catches most of them.
